Robert Duncan Stevens was born in Rome, Italy, on July 18, 1962. His father, Arnott Hume Macgregor "Pete" Stevens, MD, worked for the Canadian Embassy as a medical doctor. His mother, Estelle Mary Stevens, MD, took time off from her work and studies during the family's year and a half in Rome. Rob had two older brothers, Colin and Dave, and two older sisters, Mary and Marjorie. 
After leaving Rome as an infant, Rob spent his next six years in Dartmouth, NS, before moving to Winnipeg, MB, for two years.
After that, Rob and his family moved to Vancouver, BC, for three years before his father took another overseas posting, this time as Medical Attache, to Bonn, West Germany. While there for three years, Rob became fluent in German.
Upon the family's return to Canada, Rob went to school in South Delta, BC, and at Shawnigan Lake. Rob remained, until his end, a proud SLOB (Shawnigan Lake Old Boy)!
